We are Terry & Cathye Kinkelaar. If you've followed my blog in the past, you know that Lydia, my beautiful wife of 52 years, and I made the lifestyle choice to move to Oregon in 2017. You've seen my posts about losing her in May 2020 to cancer. Although I was left alone, I am pleased to say that I have found happiness again. In April 2021, I met Cathye, who also lost her longtime husband in 2020. Well, we fell in love and were married in April 2022. So, if folks are still interested, I will continue to post here as we move forward with our lives and adventures!

Oregon Living 2021 – Blog #55 – Not Enough Time in the Day & Getting Ready for Chowda!

Wednesday, September 1st., 2021…… Another appointment day!  We had to meet with several folks prior to our leaving for such a long period. Plus, we had to take in the truck again for more work. The camper shell on her truck had a bad hinge and we took it to the installer in Corvallis to be replaced. We walked over to Panera Bread and had dinner and hung around there for a while so they could finish. It was done in short time, and we headed back home.

Thursday, September 2nd., 2021…...  Housekeeper come today. Cathye had acupuncture and an appointment with Robin, who will be looking after Jamie while we’re gone. We met later to get our hair cut. I came back home and worked with my Directv service to replace one of the receivers and got that ordered. I checked in at the trailer and saw that Randy was finishing up the grouting. He is very careful, and the job looks terrific! He also has the dryer vent done and will be working on some other items before he is finished. He is willing to do some of the obvious plumbing connections, but we still have no word from the plumber, who needs to confirm everything is ok under the house so the water can be turned on.

Friday, September 3rd., 2021……  Water turned on at the trailer today!  Yaay! It was not a big deal, but we couldn’t remember why it was off in the first place (other than waiting for the washer, sink and dishwasher installs). No leaks so that’s good!  Spent time packing and/or getting things staged and ready. It’s tough when you are planning for two separate trips!

Saturday, September 4th., 2021……  Mowed the lawn today. Cathye worked some more on unpacking boxes for the trailer. Some rooms she can move into, like the kitchen. Some still need additional work, like touchup paint, baseboards, etc. so she will just bring boxes into those rooms for the time being.

Sunday, September 5th., 2021……  Today we went over a few things at the house with sis, who will be staying and bringing Quincy over to be with Rylee.  She needed to know about the carport because they called and said they would pick a date and let us know. I needed to show her exactly where and how I wanted it placed. Later, we met up at Gametime with Cherrelyn and Penny and had a nice meal.

Monday, September 6th., 2021……  Prep work still going on. We met with Randy, who is still working on Cathye’s trailer to go over his ‘list’ of things we needed done. No worries on most of them but some will need extra help. He is not an electrician so we will need to address that but that can be done at a later date. Later, we had everyone over for dinner. We agreed that each of us would bring what we wanted to eat. I set up a couple of easy-ups and tables and they brought their own chairs. It was nice. We went to bed early because we have a drive to Portland PDX (100 miles).

Tuesday, September 7th., 2021…… We were out early, and it was an easy drive to the airport. We chose long term parking and got her truck parked and locked and toted our bags to the shuttle bus (more on this later). We had pre checked and dropped off the suitcases and settled in and had a nice breakfast. Complete with mimosas!

The flight was not a problem but when we shuttled over to the rental car place, it took forever to get through the line to the one person working the counter. But once we were done and found the cars down in the garage and got assigned one, we were off. All the way around the corner to our hotel. It was literally ¼ mile to the Embassy Suites!  We valet-parked the car and checked in. It was a bad idea to get the car at the start of the trip because we had to pay $55.00 per day to park it. But we felt we needed the assurance of having the car plus we didn’t know we could walk over there to get one!  I’m glad it was only 2 days!  Once in the room and unpacked, we found we were hungry. The three-hour time difference made it 8:00pm so we just stayed in the hotel and split a meal. I have to say that we had the best crabcake sandwich I have ever eaten! It was delicious! Tomorrow the fun day starts!
