We are Terry & Cathye Kinkelaar. If you've followed my blog in the past, you know that Lydia, my beautiful wife of 52 years, and I made the lifestyle choice to move to Oregon in 2017. You've seen my posts about losing her in May 2020 to cancer. Although I was left alone, I am pleased to say that I have found happiness again. In April 2021, I met Cathye, who also lost her longtime husband in 2020. Well, we fell in love and were married in April 2022. So, if folks are still interested, I will continue to post here as we move forward with our lives and adventures!

2016 Trip - 3) Albuquerque NM to Amarillo TX

Thurs. 6/9….  (Albuquerque, NM)   Second day in Albuquerque.

We decided to go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Good as always. Then we drove out to Costco to get batteries for the walkies (that’s how we talk to the other rigs while on the road) and we also got stuff for Lydia’s turn for dinner. I found shorts too good to pass up so I bought those too.  Today we just kicked back and rested and Lydia got some laundry done. I did take a few pictures around the campground…..

They have set up a little vignette of period rv's which have been featured on travel shows.  Here's one...
It was Janie’s turn for dinner which was spaghetti and as Rick says, “use small penis pasta”.  He means penne. It was still good! We watched tv and prepped the rig to leave in the morning for Tucumcari.

Fri.. 6/10…  (Tucumcari, NM)  Today’s drive was 187 miles with Bill & Treasa leading us to our next stop in Tucumcari, NM.  The plan was to leave around 9:00am, stop at Flying J for fuel, and head off to Tucumcari.  Tucumcari doesn’t have much to offer so we planned a dinner in.  Lydia had bought stuffed salmon and was planning that for her shared dinner tonight.  That was the plan….  We headed off first and were fueling up when we got the call – Bill & Treasa’s rig had a failure to launch and was hobbled.  They had a bouncy ride through the park and someone told them they heard air coming out.  So they drove right to Freightliner, which, luckily, was literally a mile down the road!  They wanted us to move on and they would have the problem assessed and catch up with us in Tucumcari.  The drive was uneventful and we checked in and got set up.  We had heard about 2 hours enroute that that they were just getting to the diagnosis on the problem.  Just as we got in they called to say the airbag was bad and they would have to wait until Monday for a new one to come in.  So they will catch up.  These two have full-timed it for many many years so they know how to work through issues like this.  I was not worried. They will meet up with us down the road, possibly in Branson.  Anyway, we are now at Cactus RV Park (pa$24.00), in Tucumcari, NM.  This is a park we have been to before and is only just ok for an overnighter. But it is clean and well maintained and the owners are very nice to work with.  We decided to put the salmon in Janie’s freezer and save it for when we all can enjoy it.  We went to the Dollar General for a few items (I actually found a cell phone case to replace one that the belt clip broke on a few days ago. We put the stuff in the rigs and headed to Ben’s Diner for an early meal.  Second problem of the day – Rick’s tow car had a failure to launch as well! It was just a loose battery connection so that was lucky.  After dinner, we settled in and rested until it cooled enough to sit out for a while.

Sat. 6/11… (Amarillo, TX)  We had a drive of 101 miles today so we were in no hurry.  We left at 10:00am and are now at the Oasis RV Resort in Amarillo, TX.  This is a park that B&T have been to several times so they booked it for the group. We are here two days.

The park is really nice and about a mile from the original Cadillac Ranch. I guess they decided to make their own version.  After getting parked and settling in we hooked up with Rick & Janie (we are not in the same area and the park is huge!) and made a run to Walmart to get stuff for dinner. Lydia made steak burritos which were yummy! Afterwards, we checked out the spa for tomorrow and relaxed.
