We are Terry & Cathye Kinkelaar. If you've followed my blog in the past, you know that Lydia, my beautiful wife of 52 years, and I made the lifestyle choice to move to Oregon in 2017. You've seen my posts about losing her in May 2020 to cancer. Although I was left alone, I am pleased to say that I have found happiness again. In April 2021, I met Cathye, who also lost her longtime husband in 2020. Well, we fell in love and were married in April 2022. So, if folks are still interested, I will continue to post here as we move forward with our lives and adventures!

Oregon Living 2018 – Blog #113 – More Touring and The End of the Visit

Sunday, August 26th, 2018……   Today the girls had a few items on their plate. We got up and fixed breakfast and then they were off. They went to Albany to the carousel. Frances said she was really impressed – another place to bring Raymond! Then they went to Fred Meyer (her first time there) and picked up a few things for dinner. On the way back home, they made a slight detour and Lydia drove her through Brownsville. She has seen the movie Stand By Me and was familiar with the scenes filmed there. Then they went back and stopped by Home Town Furniture. They close forever next week and mailed us a discounted flyer so Lydia wanted to see what they had plus show Frances all of the décor. Then they stopped by Penny’s to tour the house before coming home and resting before dinner. I fired up the bbq and cooked the tri tip plus the corn and zucchini and mushrooms. My sister came by and we all had a nice filling meal.

Then the girls went out and picked grapes and blueberries. The blueberries all almost gone now but the grapes are ripe and delicious! Both Frances and Penny got some of each bagged up to take home.

After the meal, we all rested and watched tv and chatted – ok the girls chatted, I went in and watched tv. I had taped the Little League World Series (congrats to the champs from Hawaii!) and all of the weekend’s races and auctions so l had some catching up to do! Later, we called it a night and got some needed rest. Frances flies out tomorrow so we head back to Portland early in the morning.

Monday, August 27th, 2018……  We got everyone up, fed Rylee, and then left for the airport about 7:00am, stopping by McDonald’s and then to get gas. We made it with very light traffic along the way. We got there around 9:00am or so and said our goodbyes. It was fun for Frances to finally get up here and see our place and spend some time with us. Maybe Raymond will be able to get up here next trip… Then it was time to head back home. I mentioned that we took Hwy 99 going up last Friday. Today, we decided to follow it home. Problem was finding the closest intersection from the airport. The gps wasn’t exactly cooperating but we managed to surreptitiously make our way to it. We eventually crossed over where we exited it coming up the other day so now we know we have an alternate route to and from the airport in case we choose to use it. The drive via hwy 99 is very interesting and goes through the Portland suburbs and then through some small farming cities on the way south. We even stopped at a furniture store (still pricing dining room sets) and also a fencing company. We want to close the 165’ property line past the ‘west forty’, plus we’d like to put up 2-rail white (poly) fencing across the front of the property. We got prices for each but those 'sticker shock' prices will cause us to hold off for a bit!  But at least we now have a comparable and can look into alternatives (maybe Tim & Dana?) to compare prices.
We got back home in time to feed Rylee her lunch and we ate ours as well. Then it was relaxing until later in the day and I took off to Walmart to get steak buns for tri tip sandwiches for dinner. We both watched a few programs together and then went off later to each watch a few of our own taped shows.
