We are Terry & Cathye Kinkelaar. If you've followed my blog in the past, you know that Lydia, my beautiful wife of 52 years, and I made the lifestyle choice to move to Oregon in 2017. You've seen my posts about losing her in May 2020 to cancer. Although I was left alone, I am pleased to say that I have found happiness again. In April 2021, I met Cathye, who also lost her longtime husband in 2020. Well, we fell in love and were married in April 2022. So, if folks are still interested, I will continue to post here as we move forward with our lives and adventures!

Oregon Living 2018 – Blog #49 – Carol’s Last Day Here and One Day Left Till Cement!

Saturday, April 7th, 2018……  Carol’s last day here. She has a 1:25pm flight out from Eugene.  Penny came over early to walk Quincy.  She is now out by herself so that’s good. Lydia and I were up and showered and Carol got ready and finished her packing.  They had done laundry last night so her clothes were clean for the trip home. Her and Lydia went to Bi Mart to get some disposable containers so Carol could take some of her snacks back with her on the plane.  Later, we loaded up and headed south to the airport.  We dropped her off and said our goodbyes and headed back home.   It was nice to have Carol come and visit.  She says she enjoyed the time up here with us and liked everything she saw.  We know some of it could have been better.  Next time we have visitors and go to the coast, we’ll drive to Newport where we can see more of the water and see more shopping. We now know we can take folks on the excursion train when they come up.  We also learned when to go to the Oregon Gardens (when the trams are running) and the days the Albany Carousel is closed.  Lydia and I always enjoy it when folks can come up and visit.  We’re now looking into other places we can explore with them that they might enjoy.

We had seen showers come in late last night and some this morning, and then the wind picked up for a while. But the trip to and from Eugene was nice and clear. We got back home and we rested for the day. Did I mention we have had some serious wind up here today. Gusts were reported up to 50 mph!  The bbq grill that I have been telling you about that was on the back porch, now isn’t!  It is on wheels and the wind hit it and rolled it off the porch!

I have to wait until Monday when I can get Tim to help me get it picked up and put back on the porch.  I had planned on anchoring it (w/blocks and screws) to the deck so I will be sure to do that now!

Later in the evening Lydia got the text we were waiting for from Beckie. We got to make our puppy pick!  The litter born 2/20 from Jambo and Brooke had eight pups. Three boys and three girls. Recently, she had a litter exposed to parvo and she thinks it came in on someone’s shoes.  Parvo is bad stuff so she’s decided to limit visitors because of exposure.  So, she hasn’t let anyone come over to make a litter pick until Wednesday, when they chose their boy.  We were overall pick number three and second girl.  The first girl pick was today so after that, she sent us pics of the other three.  We chose this cutie…..

Something just fit when we saw her picture!  I’m guessing that by now you must already know that we have had a name picked out for our new little girl for a long time - but - we are exercising our right to change it when we first see her.  So, you all are going to be in the dark until then!  On 4/19 we will drive down to the Calif. State Square Dance Convention to get her.  Beckie and Jerry are dancers and the convention this year is in Yuba City.  They suggested this and we agreed because it cuts our drive in half!  We can’t wait!

Later, we heard from Carol that she made it home ok. When she booked her flights, she didn’t really consider flight arrangements.  She flew from Orange County to Seattle and then back down to Eugene.  Going home, she left Eugene for SF and then on to OC, which is the best way to come and go (each flight is 1 ½ hrs.) but she ended up with a three-hour layover in SF!  She got home with no problems but with that long layover, it made for a long day! The rains started again.  It’s a big front with several hours’ worth of rain but it’s mostly steady light rain. And some pretty strong wind again.

Sunday, April 8th, 2018……  Today was a rest day.  For the most part we just relaxed and enjoyed the day.  I had wanted to get the tractor out when Carol was here so she could take a few laps on it but the grass was just way too soggy. Today it was not raining a lot and later in the day it stopped altogether. The driveway and sidewalks are dry but the grass is still wet so that stops me from mowing for a while. I need at least three sunny days in a row to be able to mow. There is a one-day break in the weather, and that’s tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be really nice and no rain at all but that’s not enough time to dry out.  Plus, that’s when the cement is due so I wouldn’t mow then anyway.  I’m guessing they will have to cover up everything when they are done because we have rain forecast for the rest of the week.  My poor grass is getting tall again - but oh well!  Again, we just hung around the house, watching tv and relaxing. And thinking about our new puppy!
